Recently I was looking over the top Google searches of 2017 and noticed something…strange. There was no option to view what people in Trinidad & Tobago were searching for in 2017.
I was angry, angry at Google, so angry I shook my fist in the air and shouted “How could Google not have an option for Trinidad & Tobago!” After furiously scrolling through the list of countries I realised we weren’t the only ones left out. It seems several countries weren’t included; Jamaica, Guyana and Venezuela were another three I noticed that wasn’t on the list.

After I calmed down and since I had nothing better to do, I decided to compile a list of Trinidad & Tobago’s top Google searches of 2017.

Here are the top 10 overall searches for Trinidad & Tobago in 2017.

The top 10 searches were not surprising, mainly social networking sites, which is what I had expected.

A trending search is a query with the biggest increase in search frequency since the last time period. Simply put, it’s what people were searching for in 2017 as compared to 2016.

The Caribbean Premier League ranked as number one; lots of cricket fans in Trinidad & Tobago.
Hurricane Irma ranked number two, who can forget hurricane Irma? Regarded as one of the most catastrophic hurricanes, it made headlines across the world.
Coming in at number three we have gomovies (no one uses torrents anymore?). At number four we have the Indian Premier League, as I said before, there’s a lot of cricket fans in Trinidad & Tobago. And at number 5 we have the song Despacito, which I admit was a little catchy.
The other five results are pretty much movie streaming websites, except for sarahah (a social networking site which allows anonymous feedback.)
There you have it Trinidad & Tobago; your trending and top search results for 2017. Wait, what about YouTube or news and image searches? Surely some of you might be interested?

Some of the data looks weird?
If you noticed that some of the data in trending searches looks weird, you’re absolutely right. Take the “top 10 trending image searches”, why is “123movies” ranked as number one and why is “yahoo mail” ranked as number five?
My best guess is people were accidentally searching for “123movies” in the images section, but it seems unlikely so many people would make the same mistake.
Maybe these discrepancies in the trending searches is why Trinidad & Tobago wasn’t in the drop down menu to view search trends for 2017. Just a theory though.
Anyhow, even if it’s not 100% accurate, as I like to say “it does give some context.”
